Digital Sports Portfolio

My name is Nicco Baratto and I'm a senior at the University of Mary Washington. I'm currently in the process of obtaining a major in Communications and Digital Studies with a minor in Business Administration. With this website, I am creating a place where I can post content related to three of my favorite sports teams, the Carolina Panthers, the Washington Wizards, and the Washington Capitals.

Carolina Panthers

Week 11

The Panthers took on the New York Jets in Week 11 and it was a bit of a struggle for the Panthers. Cam Newton had a rough game, only passing for 168 yards. They got a lot of help from their defense/special teams, with Luke Kuechly returning a fumble for a touchdown and Kaelin Clay returning a punt for a TD. The Panthers are 8-3 right now and they will play the Saints next Sunday, which will determine which team will take the lead in the NFC South.

Week 10

Monday Night Football: Jay Cutler and the Miami Dolphins came to town and didn't leave happy. The Panthers defeated the Dolphins 45-21! Cam Newton threw 4 TDs and also had 95 rushing yards. It appears that his right shoulder that he got surgically repaired is no longer an issue. The Panthers have a bye next week and will play the Dolphins in week 12.

Week 9

The Panthers beat the Falcons on Sunday 20-17! They couldn't have done without Cam Newton's effort running the ball. He led the team in rushing yards with a 86 yards! He also had a very impressive TD where he dove into the end zone dunking the football on a defenders helmet.

Washington Wizards

November 28th:

The Wizards had to play another game without their starting point guard, John Wall. Fortunately, they were able to beat the Timberwolves by three points. They won 92-89. Bradley Beal had a tough night, but Otto Porter was able to carry the team, scoring 22 points. They also had good production coming off the bench with three of their bench players scoring in double figures. Hopefully Bradley Beal can bounce back in their next game because he's been having a stellar season.

November 25th:

John Wall is going to miss two weeks due to a knee injury. This means that other starters like Beal and Porter will need to step up. Unfortunately they couldn't put it together to beat this tough team. The Wizards lost 108-105. Next up the Wizards will go to Minnesota to take on Jimmy Butler and the Wolves.

November 22nd:

Dwight Howard showed up tonight for the Hornets, recording a double-double. He had 26 points and 13 rebounds. John Wall scored 31 points and the game went into overtime, However it wasn't enough to defeat them. The Hornets won 129-124 in a very disappointing loss for the Wizards. The Wizards have another important game next vs Damian Lillard and the Trail Blazers.

November 20th:

Although Wall returned to the lineup tonight, Bradley Beal carried to the team to defeat the Bucks 99-88. The Wizards have one more road game left in this stretch, where they will visit Charlotte, North Carolina to take on the Hornets.

November 19th:

The Wizards took on the Toronto Raptors without John Wall tonight and were able to get back on track with a 100-91 victory. In Wall's absence, Bradley Beal took over leading the team with 27 points. Next up, the Wizards will play Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks.

November 15th and 17th:

The Wizards played back-to-back games against the Miami Heat. They took game 1 in Miami, but the Heat got their revenge in game 2. In the first game, Wall and Beal combined for 53 points. The Wizards will take on the 3rd best team in the East, the Toronto Raptors in their next game. The last time they met the Wiz won by 11, so hopefully they can play well again.

November 13th:

The Wizards won their 3rd game in a row tonight against a young Sacramento Kings team. Four out of the five Wizards starters finished the game in double figures, with Wall leading the team with 21 points. They looked good in this win and are looking to keep the streak going against Miami in their next game.

November 11th:

The Wizards shut down the struggling Atlanta Hawks 113-94. The Wizards received a lot of help from their bench, which helped them secure the win. The Wizards aim to win their 3rd game in a row on a Monday night where they will host the Sacramento Kings.

November 9th:

The Wizards hosted rookie Lonzo Ball and the Los Angeles Lakers tonight. John Wall and Bradley Beal both had a great game, scoring 23 and 22 points respectively. They defeated the Lakers 111-95. They will remain at home for their next game where they will host the 2-10 Atlanta Hawks. Currently, the Wizards are 6-5, but I believe they can do much better.

November 7th:

The Wizards hosted the struggling Dallas Mavericks. Unfortunately, they were able to end their losing streak defeating the Wizards 113-99. Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes led the way with a season-high 31 points. The Wizards look forward to another home game where they will be hosting Lonzo Ball and the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night.

November 5th:

The Wizards took a road trip to a different country to take on the Toronto Raptors. Bradley Beal played exceptionally well scoring 38 points in the game. Beal has scored 114 points in the last three games. The Wizards take on the 1-10 Dallas Mavericks Tuesday night at Capital One Arena.

Washington Capitals

November 25th:

The Capitals traveled to Toronto tonight to take on the Maple Leafs. They were able to add another win to their win streak, thanks to an incredible 3 goals from Alex Ovechkin. This was his second hat trick of the season. They have a nice break coming up and won't play again until November 30th.

November 24th:

The best team in the NHL took on the Caps tonight and the Caps reminded their fans that they are still one of the top teams in the NHL. Backup goalie Philipp Grubauer got his first win of the season. The Caps won 3-1 and Ovechkin scored a nice goal to close the game.

November 22th:

The Ottawa Senators were in town tonight and they couldn't handle the Caps. They were able to bounce back after losing to the flames winning 5-2. They looked very sharp tonight and hopefully they can get another win streak going. Up next is the best team in the NHL, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

November 20th:

The Caps hosted the Calgary Flames tonight and it didn't end well. They lost 4-1. Lars Eller had the only goal. They'll look to get back on track against the Senators.

November 18th:

The Caps faced off with the Wild and got the win! Ovi got banged up a little bit, but he was able to return to the game and propel the Caps to a victory.

November 16th:

The Capitals came up short again against the Avalanche. They lost 6-2. This is partly because Holtby had the night off, and the backup goalie Philipp Grubauer hasn't been performing as well as we had hoped. Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog had a big day as he scored his first career hat trick. The Capitals return home on Saturday against the Wild where hopefully they can break their losing streak.

November 14th:

The Capitals took on the Nashville Predators, but in the end they couldn't outscore them. The Predators won 6-3. However, T.J. Oshie scored two goals.

November 12th:

The Capitals defeated the Oilers tonight in a shootout. A lot of credit has to given to Braden Holtby who put on a stellar performance. Next up for the Caps is a road game against the Predators.

November 10th:

The Capitals hosted their rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Every time these teams meet, they always make it worth watching. The Capitals came up with with the win scoring 4 goals by Carlson, Oshie, Stephenson, and an empty-netter from Vrána. Below is a highlight video from each goal scored throughout the game. The Capitals have another home game on Sunday where they will host Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.

November 7th:

Coming off an overtime victory, the Caps went on the road to Buffalo to take on the Sabres. It was a tough night for them as Alex Ovechkin scored their only goal and it wasn't enough to win the game. They have the next two days off and they will host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night. These teams tend to match up well so it will certainly be worth watching!

November 6th:

Tonight, the Capitals hosted the Arizona Coyotes where the game was closer than it should've been. The Coyotes only have 2 wins this year, and they weren't going to get another against the Caps. The game ended up going into overtime and John Carlson gave the Caps the win with a nice goal assisted by T.J. Oshie.
